May 6-7 - Journaling with Rubber Stamps

While many artists and crafters are attracted to rubber stamps, it’s easy to be baffled as to their use and overwhelmed by the vast array of inks, embossing powders, and countless related products. As you create a hardcover accordion book in this class, telling a simple story with stamped images, Alice will teach you the basics of rubberstamping. Techniques covered will include basic inking and placement, uses of various kinds of ink, resist stamping, brayering onto glossy cardstock, masking, stippling, and more! You’ll begin this two-day workshop by choosing a rubber stamp to portray your main character (you!) in most of the pages, and then additional stamps to represent others in your life. For example, as shown in the class sample, Alice has chosen a kitty wearing a clown collar (who only ever says “Mew!”) as herself, and various animals as members of her family (an armadillo, a penguin, a sleeping harpy...). The pages you make—showing what you’ve learned of basic and fancy stamping—will fill your accordion book, bringing your story together. During the class you’ll have access to Castleʼs wonderful assortment of rubber stamps, as well as the use of Aliceʼs large collection, but you are welcome to bring your own stamps, clearly marked with your name.
