Mar 16 - Jacob's Ladder Book

125.00

Created in the 1700s by Japanese artist and inventor Hiraga Gennai, the Jacob’s Ladder is familiar to many of us as a well-loved American folk toy. In this day-long workshop you will learn to make a box that, when opened in one direction, reveals certain contents, leaving other compartments enticingly inaccessible. When opened in the other direction, the hidden contents appear! You’ll learn the basics of traditional box-making as practiced by book conservators, using museum boards, book cloth, various papers, and special adhesives. Alice will teach you how to construct the interior compartments and the magical Jacob’s Ladder lid, and you’ll have access to Castle in the Air’s magical marbleized papers to line the interior and cover the exterior of your finished box.
