February 9 - Introduction to Pointed Pen

February 9 - Introduction to Pointed Pen

This introductory calligraphy class will teach you how to use a pointed pen and an oblique pen holder. With a pointed pen, the thick and thin lines are made by varying the pressure on the tip of the nib. With the more familiar Italic of a broad-nib pen, these differences in width are achieved through changing the angle of the nib on paper. You’ll spend the morning getting comfortable with the pointed pen by practicing some simple flourishing designs. The afternoon will be devoted to working with Weaver Writing Style, a beautifully flowing and simple calligraphic script of all lowercase letters.
