April 22 - Encaustic Collage Workshop

135.00

Using a variety of techniques and materials originating in ancient Greco-Roman culture, Alice will introduce you to the unique luminous and translucent qualities in encaustic art. You will learn to use melted beeswax mixed with Damar resin (a nontoxic tree resin)—along with pigmented encaustic sticks and oil and chalk pastels—on various papers and collage materials. You will also learn to “fuse” your materials with a special heat gun and iron your waxed compositions with an iron specially suited for encaustic art. We will use cradled birch board as well as various mulberry papers, employing a series of steps that Alice herself developed for this medium.

Fee: $135; includes all materials
